This episode about apps for education. 5 million apps have been sold so far. Many of these apps can help students in their school. There is an easy way to find free apps through the Apple app store. Tony, the speaker has already found 30 apps himself (Posted on his Delicious) and cites a teacher who actively uses 99 apps in her class. The trick is to find apps that are actually useful and classroom appropriate. He talks about how Twitter is a great place to go to keep an eye out for day only deals on apps that are usually a little more expensive. iCell is a cool app that he talks about that could be used in a science class. It shows interactive 3d models of tons of different cells. Students can learn a lot. Another app is called Read Me STories where there is a new interactive book a day where children can be read to. I like that there is so much content out there where kids can learn new things. It reminds me of those Leap Frog commercials where the parents are yelling at their children to stop watching tv and start playing their video games. Technology is becoming more than just entertainment, it's becoming a place of learning.
