Wesley Fryer is with his daughter in Manchester New Hampshire for a tech conference. He is talking about English Language Learners and differentiated learning. The poem by Ruslana Westerland is about a Ukrainian immigrant who is being treated differently for her race. She notices a lot of things about how schools engage with ELL students and how they are all clumped together. she has a passion about teaching people about how to treat non English speaking students. ELL Bill of Rights is summed up as English learners have more rights than educators know about. She says that a lot of teachers think that they are being treated equal for simply having the same textbooks, but often they need more help.
Ruslana gives me a lot to think about. You can't just give a student the bare minimum. You have to work with them on many different levels for them to fully comprehend the language.
